Collateral is an action based thiriller which incorporates many subtleties in order to create and maintain suspense. The opening clip is set in an airport which establishes a close up of Tom Cruise's face signifying that he is the main focus. The diagetic sound of the hubub of ambient background noise and different sounding footsteps is also incorporated. Tom cruise has footsteps of a slow pace as he walks through the airport in his suit and tinted shades indicating his importance and also showing that he is mellow and cool, however the oppoising footsteeps are fast paced telling us he is nervous and thus showing binary oppositions. The footsteps are also accompnied by a non diagetic sound of a fast pace modern score with a drum beat, which creates suspense as it indicates to the audience that something is going to happen. When the two men come into contact there is a match cut with the bag swap which creates suspense as the audience are left wondering what the bags contain and whether or not they were swapped intentionally. An over the shoulder shot of Tom Cruise is used at this point which allows us to see through his perspective.
I enjoyed the opening of this film, I especially liked the fact that there were no tittles I found this quite effective as it kind of leads to an element of mystery and makes the audience wonder what its all about. However I think that the plot was delivered to early on in the film and it kind of makes it abit tooProxy-Connection: keep-alive

bvious what the central idea of the film surrounds.
