Deja Vu is an action packed thriller which tells the story of one man's journey back in time to save a womans life. The opening sequence is full of suspense and lets the audience know that something bad is going to happen.
Normality is established at the beginning with cheerful band music, people laughing etc, however the slow motion shots and camera shots from high and wide shot angles suggest that they are being wathced. The white boxes around the titles also suggest this as they look like targets, indicating that the people on the boat are somebodies target. The way the boxes disappear also create suspense, e.g. when a wave washes one away it indicates that whoever is wastching is undercover.
When the little girl drops her doll, our eyes play tricks on us as we automatically think that it was a real baby. This builds suspense as we are uncertain ifd the baby is real and wether the little girl is going to jump after it.
The doll hitting the water is dramatized by amplified sounds of waves and a slow motion shot.
The two shots of the passengers and the car park causes suspense as there is a dramatic change in music. The music upstairs is cheerful, happy and loud but the music downstairs is slow airy and very quiet. This causes suspense as the audience know that the music downstairs is diegetic but they do not know where it is coming from. The slow music also suggests that things are slowing down and they are coming to an end.
