List of Thriller sub-genres

Thriller sub-genres.

  • Action (An example of an action thriller would be Panic room) which tells the story of intruders invading a family home and the only safe escape is the Panic room.

  • Psychological

  • Political

  • Supernatural

  • Sci-fi

  • Spy (An example of a spy thriller would be Taken) this tells the story of a man embarking on an emotional journey in an attempt to find his daughter who is abducted by trafficers.

The type of thriller that inspires me the most is psychological thrillers as they often require deep thinking and in order to unravell the plot you often have to look beneath the surface. Additionally they tend tend to have interesting twists at the ending of the film that are usually not of the initial expectations of the viewer. Moreover I find that psychological thrillers are generally better at maintaining suspense throughout the film

A primary example of a psychological thriller would be orpahan, which tells the story of a troubled girl who's an orphan and is adopted by a suburban family. The troubled girl completes unjustified grusome acts in an attempt to isolate her adopted mother due to her innapropriate feelings of a sexual nature towards her father.

As it stands much of our film mirrors Orphan as it's where the route of our inspiration originated from. We took the idea of the young and troubled sociopathic girl and used this in our opening sequence as we thought it would create a chilling effect within the audience and as the film was so popular amongst the audience we aimed to target we felt that it would be a successful idea in that area alone.
